Dr. Buechel is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who is world renowned for his surgical skills in total joint replacement. He has been actively involved in the development of total joint replacements and surgical instrumentation along with the late Michael J. Pappas, Ph.d., a mechanical engineering professor at NJ Institute of Technology. Together, they generated over 150 United States and foreign patents on their joint replacement inventions. The NJ Low Contact Stress (LCS) Knee Replacement is still used worldwide and is their most famous device. It was approved by the FDA in 1991 after 11 years of clinical trials. During his very successful career, Dr. Buechel has taught surgical techniques to residents, colleagues and surgeons from around the world. Dr. Buechel is a board member of the New Jersey Medical School Alumni Society and the Dean's Advisory Committee. In 2002, he established a Chair in Orthopaedic Research at the New Jesey Medical School where he continues to share his expertise. He also established the Buechel Patient Care Research and Education Fund in 2002, enabling him to fund various charities, patient care and research projects.
